From the very first needle felt practice to my second I learned a lot about how I can layer and make shapes. Initially I really struggled with attaching different parts together, for example, I thought I could make the head separately and then attach it to the body. But I found that it is very hard because the center wouldn’t be attached very securely. If I added more felt directly and then stabbed it while keeping in mind the shape, then I was able to achieve a very secure attachment of the different parts. I also found that it was easier to layer the felt if I spread it out thinly and evenly and then continued to stab every part the same amount. This was the only way for me to get a smooth surface. For the details it was definitely better to use very minimal felt and then work my way up. Overall, I noticed a lot of techniques that allowed me to improve drastically. I do think that if I stabbed it for longer and used more felt I could make the whole duck a little harder because it is still softer than it should be.
I wanted to make a bird at first but someone told me it looks like a duck so I guess it could be a duck too!
My classwork ( I struggled a bit attaching and the whole thing felt very uneven where some parts were hard and others were soft):
